Nylon Hose Tail x BSP Male

The nylon hose tail is the most used fitting in the range: a barb for the hose, a male BSP thread for the port. It does the same job as a brass tail, and it is chosen over brass wherever corrosion is the problem rather than pressure, which on rural and irrigation water is most of the time.

• Barbed tail for hose, male BSP thread for a female port
• Straight through bore for minimal restriction
• Glass fibre reinforced nylon, also available in 100% polypropylene on request
• Certified to AS/NZS 4020, so it is approved for potable water
• Precision heavy duty tapered BSP threads
• 1600 kPa at 20°C for 6 mm to 50 mm, 1200 kPa at 65 mm, 1000 kPa from 80 mm to 100 mm
• Will not corrode, unlike brass or steel, in fertiliser, bore water and coastal air

Compatibility and fitting

• Size the barb on the hose bore and the thread on the port independently
• Clamp the hose with a hose clamp, two under pressure
• Seal threads with a thread sealing paste or thread tape
• Nylon threads strip more easily than brass: tighten by hand and finish with a light nip, never a long lever
• Check the pressure band for the size you are buying, as it steps down above 50 mm

Nylon or brass?

Nylon for corrosive water, fertiliser lines and anywhere weight matters; brass for higher pressure, heat, and where the fitting will be knocked about. Nylon is also far cheaper, which matters when a system uses fifty of them.

Is it really safe for drinking water?

Yes. The range is certified to AS/NZS 4020, which is the Australian test for products in contact with drinking water. That is why it appears on rainwater tanks and stock troughs.
