About Stainless Steel Fittings
Stainless steel fittings earn their place wherever brass or zinc-plated steel gives up: salt spray, caustic wash-down, food and beverage lines, and chemical dosing. Our threaded range is 316 stainless, the marine grade, in BSP sizes from 1/8" through to 2", so you can build a complete assembly from one shelf rather than mixing materials at the joints. Stock sits in our Brisbane warehouse and ships Australia-wide.
Types of stainless steel fittings we stock
- Hose tails: hose tail x male BSP and hose tail x female BSP, for taking a hose line onto a threaded port. Secure them with a suitable hose clamp.
- Nipples and reducing nipples: hex nipples for joining two female ports, reducing nipples for stepping between thread sizes.
- Sockets, bushes and lock nuts: round sockets and reducing sockets to extend or reduce a run, bushes to drop a port down a size, lock nuts for bulkhead work.
- Elbows and tees: male/female and female elbows at 90 degrees, 45 degree elbows for gentler direction changes, and female tees for branching a line.
- Caps, hex plugs and barrel unions: to blank a port during testing, and unions to break a line without unwinding the whole assembly.
Choosing the right stainless steel fitting
- Thread: the range is BSP. Check whether your port is male or female before ordering, and note that a male/female elbow saves you a nipple.
- Size: match the thread size to the port, not to the spanner flats. Where the hose and the port differ, use a reducing nipple, bush or reducing socket rather than over-tightening a mismatched thread.
- Material: 316 suits saltwater, chlorides, food and chemical service. For dry indoor air and water lines, brass fittings or poly fittings usually cost less and do the same job.
- Sealing: parallel BSP threads seal on tape or an anaerobic sealant, not on the thread alone. Our sealants and tapes cover both.
- Temperature and pressure: choose the fitting to suit the weakest part of the assembly, which is usually the hose or the clamp rather than the stainless body.
