Nylon Reducing Hose Joiner

A reducing joiner has a different barb size at each end, so it steps between two hose bores in a single fitting. It is what you need when a system has grown piecemeal and a 3/4 inch main has to feed a 1/2 inch branch without a pile of adapters.

Compatibility and fitting

• Specify both sizes when ordering, larger end first
• Clamp each side with a hose clamp sized to that hose
• Seal threads with a thread sealing paste or thread tape
• Nylon threads strip more easily than brass: tighten by hand and finish with a light nip, never a long lever
• Check the pressure band for the size you are buying, as it steps down above 50 mm

Does reducing cost me flow?

At the reduction, yes. The smaller bore sets the flow for everything downstream, so reduce as late in the run as you can rather than at the source.

Can I reduce two sizes at once?

Usually, and it beats stacking two joiners. Every extra joint is another clamp to check and another place to weep.
