Description
A double ear clamp is crimped, not screwed. The clamp slides over the joint and the two ears either side are squeezed together with pincer pliers, which pulls the band down evenly and permanently. There is no screw head to catch on anything and nothing to work loose, which is why the OTK series is used on air, gas and liquid lines where a low profile permanent joint is wanted.
Key features
- Clamping range from 5-7 mm through to 31-34 mm, OTK07 to OTK34
- Double ear design crimps closed in one action
- Low profile with no protruding screw head
- Zinc plated carbon steel
- Even clamping pressure around the joint
- Simple, economical answer to awkward sealing problems
- Fitted with OTK pincer pliers for correct crimping
Applications
- Compressed air lines
- Gas and liquid transfer lines
- Small bore hose and tube where a screw clamp will not fit
- CV boots and dust covers
- Production and assembly work where speed matters
Compatibility and fitting
- Choose the clamp so the uncrimped range brackets the hose outside diameter
- Crimp with OTK pincer pliers; other pliers will distort the ear rather than close it
- Squeeze the ear fully closed in one action rather than working it in stages
- The joint is permanent, so cut the clamp off to remove it
Can a double ear clamp be reused?
No. Crimping deforms the ear permanently, so a removed clamp is scrap. Keep a few spares with the pliers, because you will need a new clamp every time the joint comes apart.
Single or double ear?
Double ear pulls up more evenly and holds better on anything carrying pressure. Single ear is for very small, low pressure work where there is not room for two.
