Description

An L port three way valve sends the inlet to one outlet or the other on a quarter turn, so it works as a selector rather than a mixer. This is the side entry pattern, with the stem through the side of the body, for installations where a bottom entry valve cannot be mounted. Six sizes, BVLP12 at 12 mm to BVLP50 at 50 mm.

Key features

  • L port drilling for diverting between two directions
  • Side entry configuration
  • Nickel plated brass body, brass stem, chrome plated brass ball
  • PTFE seats
  • Stainless steel handle and nut
  • Rated to 2500 kPa and 150 degrees C

Applications

  • Switching a pump between two tanks
  • Selecting one of a pair of filters without stopping the line
  • Water and air service lines
  • Plant flow control where the line has to go one way or the other

Compatibility and fitting

  • Three BSP ports, sized 12, 20, 25, 32, 40 and 50 mm
  • Threaded adaptors to suit sit in brass fittings
  • Where the body has to sit low in the run, the bottom entry L port is the alternative pattern
  • To combine two lines instead of choosing between them, use the T port valve

Side entry or bottom entry?

They divert flow identically; the difference is where the stem comes out. Side entry puts the handle out from the body, which suits a valve behind a panel or under a bench. Bottom entry brings the stem up through the base for a compact assembly. Choose on how the valve has to sit, not on what it does.

Can an L port valve mix two lines?

No, and that is the point of it. The L drilling connects the inlet to one outlet at a time. The T port valve in the same chrome plated brass range has a T shaped drilling and can feed two outlets together or bring two lines into one.

Both entry styles are listed in ball valves.
