Stainless steel hose fittings and brass fittings do the same job in different conditions: brass for general water, air, oil and fuel work, stainless steel where salt, chemicals or constant wash-down would attack brass. Hose Suppliers Australia stocks both in BSP threads from 1/8" to 1", with hose tails, compression fittings and screwed pipe fittings held in our Brisbane warehouse.
Types of brass and stainless steel fittings we stock
- Hose tails: brass and stainless steel hose tail x male BSP, plus 90 degree hose tail elbows, in tail sizes from 1/8" through to 1/2".
- Barbed joiners, elbows and tees: brass hose joiners, reducing joiners, hose elbows and hose tail tees from 3/16" (5 mm) to 5/8" (16 mm).
- Compression fittings: unions, male and female connectors, elbows, tees, nuts and universal copper olives for 1/8" to 1/2" tube.
- Screwed pipe fittings: hex nipples, reducing nipples, hex sockets, reducing sockets, male-female elbows, caps and hollow taper plugs in BSP sizes up to 1".
For plastic alternatives on corrosive or low-pressure lines, see poly fittings and nylon fittings. Where a line has to be broken and remade often, camlock fittings are quicker than a thread, and stainless steel fittings covers the corrosion-resistant range on its own.
Choosing the right hose fitting
- Size: match the tail to the hose inside diameter and the thread to the equipment port, and use a reducing bush or nipple where the two differ.
- Thread: our threaded fittings are BSP unless the product says otherwise, so check before ordering to suit NPT equipment.
- Material: brass for water, air, oil and fuel; stainless steel for marine, food, wash-down and chemical service.
- Compression or barb: use a compression fitting on rigid nylon or copper tube and a barbed tail on flexible hose.
- Sealing: taper threads need tape or sealant, and a barbed tail needs a clamp sized to the hose outside diameter.
