Description
A needle valve meters flow instead of switching it: a tapered stem winds down into a small seat, so a full turn of the knob makes a small change to the flow rather than a large one. Brass body, female BSP at both ends, rated to 500 psi maximum working pressure and 110 degrees C. Three part numbers cover the range: NV10402 for 1/8 BSP, NV10404 for 1/4 and NV10406 for 3/8.
Key features
- Brass body
- Female BSP threads at both ends
- Maximum working pressure 500 psi
- Maximum temperature 110 degrees C
- Listed for air and water
- Three sizes: 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8 BSP
Applications
- Metering air to a tool or a test rig
- Bleed and sampling points
- Setting flow to a gauge or an instrument
- Fine adjustment on water lines
Compatibility and fitting
- Female both ends, so a male BSP thread is needed each side
- Male BSP nipples to suit: brass fittings
- Listed for air and water; other media are not covered by the supplier's rating
- For on and off duty on the same threads, the brass mini ball valve range runs BVM02 to BVM20
Needle valve or ball valve?
A ball valve is a switch: a quarter turn, open or shut, and anything in between is guesswork that also chews the seat. A needle valve is an adjuster, with a tapered stem and several turns between shut and fully open, so a flow can be set and left. Plenty of rigs want both, one to isolate and one to meter.
What size needle valve do I need?
Order on the thread, not on the flow. The range is 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8 female BSP: NV10402 is the 1/8, NV10404 the 1/4 and NV10406 the 3/8. All three carry the same 500 psi and 110 degrees C ratings.
Metering, isolating and one way valves are all in valves.
