Standard Compression Nut

The compression nut (Brass No. 2) is the part that does the work. Tightening it drives the olive onto the tube and into the fitting body, which is what makes the seal. It carries no seal itself, so it is a wear part you can replace without disturbing the rest of the joint.

Compatibility and fitting

• Match the nut to the tube size and the olive, not to the fitting thread alone
• Fit with a new olive every time the joint is remade
• Tighten firmly then a fraction more: over tightening splits the olive and the joint never seals
• Use a spiggot inside nylon and soft tube

Why has my compression joint started leaking?

Nine times out of ten the olive has been reused or the tube has crept out of the fitting. Cut back, fit a fresh olive, and reseat the tube fully home before tightening.

Can I over tighten it?

Easily. The nut will keep turning long after the olive has sealed, and past that point you are deforming brass. Nip it up and stop.
