Universal Compression Olives

The olive is the part of a compression joint that actually seals. It is a soft brass sleeve that the nut crushes onto the tube, forming the seal between the tube and the fitting body. Get the olive wrong and the joint weeps no matter how hard the nut is done up.

Compatibility and fitting

• Match the olive size to the tube outside diameter, not the thread
• Pair with the matching compression nut and fitting body
• On nylon and soft tube, fit a spiggot inside the tube so the olive has something to crush against
• An olive is single use: once crushed it has taken the shape of that tube and will not reseal elsewhere

Can I reuse an olive?

No. Crushing deforms it permanently onto that exact tube. Cut it off and fit a new one. Reusing olives is the most common cause of a compression joint that will not stop weeping.

When do I need a spiggot?

On nylon and other soft tube, and on anything at the top of the pressure range. The spiggot supports the tube wall from inside so the olive can crush without collapsing the tube.
