Description

An ordinary clamp is tightened once and then loses grip as the hose warms, cools and takes a set. A constant torque clamp carries a Belleville spring washer that keeps taking up that movement, so the joint stays sealed through heat cycling instead of weeping after a few months. It is the clamp for coolant, exhaust and any line that runs hot and then cools.

Key features

  • Belleville spring mechanism adjusts the clamp diameter as the hose expands and shrinks
  • Prevents leaks caused by heat cycling and material set, without retightening
  • Extended inner liner protects the hose from wear and spreads the load
  • Made entirely from 304 stainless steel
  • Compliant with SAE J1508 Type SLHD
  • Band width 15.8 mm (5/8"), slotted head screw 7.9 mm (5/16")
  • Manufactured in the USA
  • Sold individually or in packs of 10

Applications

  • Coolant and radiator hose on engines that heat cycle daily
  • Turbo and charge air connections
  • Exhaust and wet exhaust joints
  • Truck, bus and heavy plant cooling systems
  • Marine engine installations
  • Any joint that is difficult to reach for retightening

Compatibility and fitting

  • Size on the outside diameter of the hose with the hose fitted to the spigot
  • Tighten until the spring washers are compressed as the manufacturer specifies, then stop; the spring does the rest
  • Do not retighten out of habit, as over compressing the spring removes the effect you paid for
  • For joints that do not heat cycle, a standard worm drive clamp is the cheaper choice

When is a constant torque clamp worth the money?

Whenever a leak costs more than the clamp. Coolant joints on plant, marine exhaust connections and anything buried behind a panel are the classic cases: the clamp costs a few dollars and the callout does not.

Does it replace a standard clamp one for one?

Yes, on the same hose outside diameter. It is physically larger because of the spring stack, so check there is clearance around the joint before you order.
