Nylon BSP Cap

A cap closes a male thread by going over the outside of it. Use it to blank a spare tank outlet, close off a decommissioned branch, or shut a leg while the rest of a system is pressure tested.

Compatibility and fitting

• A cap goes over a male thread; a plug goes into a female port
• Seal it properly: a weeping blank is still a leak
• Seal threads with a thread sealing paste or thread tape
• Nylon threads strip more easily than brass: tighten by hand and finish with a light nip, never a long lever
• Check the pressure band for the size you are buying, as it steps down above 50 mm

Cap or plug?

Look at the port. A male thread sticking out takes a cap over it. A female port takes a plug into it. Ordering the wrong one is the usual mistake.

Why nylon rather than brass for a blank?

Because a brass blank left in a bore water outlet for five years usually will not come out again. Nylon does.
