Description
Male thread at both ends. A nipple joins two female ports directly, or extends a connection out of a recessed port so the next fitting can be reached. It is the simplest thing in the range and the one most likely to be missing when you need it.
Key features
- Male BSP thread at both ends
- Joins two female threaded components
- Extends a connection out of a recessed port
- Glass fibre reinforced nylon, also available in 100% polypropylene on request
- Certified to AS/NZS 4020, so it is approved for potable water
- Precision heavy duty tapered BSP threads
- 1600 kPa at 20°C for 6 mm to 50 mm, 1200 kPa at 65 mm, 1000 kPa from 80 mm to 100 mm
- Will not corrode, unlike brass or steel, in fertiliser, bore water and coastal air
Applications
- Irrigation and rural water systems
- Rainwater and poly tank plumbing
- Pump and filter connections
- Stock and trough water lines
- Garden and nursery reticulation
Compatibility and fitting
- Both ends are the same size; use the reducing nipple to change size
- Seal threads with a thread sealing paste or thread tape
- Nylon threads strip more easily than brass: tighten by hand and finish with a light nip, never a long lever
- Check the pressure band for the size you are buying, as it steps down above 50 mm
Nipple or socket?
A nipple is male at both ends and joins two female ports. A socket is female at both ends and joins two male threads. Look at what you are connecting before ordering.
How tight is tight enough?
Hand tight plus a nip with a strap wrench. Nylon threads will keep turning and then split, so stop when it seals rather than when it stops.
The full range is in nylon fittings.
