Nylon BSP Plug

A plug closes a female port by screwing into it. Every tank, pump and manifold has a spare tapping somewhere that needs to be blanked, and this is what goes in it.

• Certified to AS/NZS 4020, so it is approved for potable water
• Precision heavy duty tapered BSP threads
• 1600 kPa at 20°C for 6 mm to 50 mm, 1200 kPa at 65 mm, 1000 kPa from 80 mm to 100 mm
• Will not corrode, unlike brass or steel, in fertiliser, bore water and coastal air

Compatibility and fitting

• A plug goes into a female port; use a cap over a male thread
• Leave a plug in a port you may use later rather than an open thread that will foul
• Seal threads with a thread sealing paste or thread tape
• Nylon threads strip more easily than brass: tighten by hand and finish with a light nip, never a long lever
• Check the pressure band for the size you are buying, as it steps down above 50 mm

Plug or cap?

The plug is the male one and goes in. The cap is female and goes over. If you are looking into a threaded hole, you want the plug.

Does it need thread tape?

On these tapered threads, yes, tape or paste. A plug is a pressure boundary like any other fitting.
