Description
A reducing bush is male on the outside and female on the inside, so it screws into an oversized port and accepts a smaller fitting. It is how a 1 inch tank outlet ends up feeding a 3/4 inch line without anyone cutting anything.
Key features
- Male thread outside, smaller female thread inside
- Reduces a port to a smaller connection in one fitting
- Glass fibre reinforced nylon, also available in 100% polypropylene on request
- Certified to AS/NZS 4020, so it is approved for potable water
- Precision heavy duty tapered BSP threads
- 1600 kPa at 20°C for 6 mm to 50 mm, 1200 kPa at 65 mm, 1000 kPa from 80 mm to 100 mm
- Will not corrode, unlike brass or steel, in fertiliser, bore water and coastal air
Applications
- Irrigation and rural water systems
- Rainwater and poly tank plumbing
- Pump and filter connections
- Stock and trough water lines
- Garden and nursery reticulation
Compatibility and fitting
- Read both threads before ordering: outside male size and inside female size
- Stacking bushes to reach a size adds leak paths; use a single correct bush
- Seal threads with a thread sealing paste or thread tape
- Nylon threads strip more easily than brass: tighten by hand and finish with a light nip, never a long lever
- Check the pressure band for the size you are buying, as it steps down above 50 mm
Bush or socket?
A bush reduces inside a port you screw into. A socket joins two male threads of the same size. If something is going into a hole, you want the bush.
Can I bush down two sizes?
Usually in one fitting, and that is better than two stacked. Each stacked adapter is another thread to seal and another to fail.
The full range is in nylon fittings.
