Nylon BSP Reducing Nipple

A nipple with a different thread size at each end, joining two female ports that do not match. On a rural water system assembled from whatever was available, this is the fitting that makes it all line up.

• Glass fibre reinforced nylon, also available in 100% polypropylene on request
• Certified to AS/NZS 4020, so it is approved for potable water
• Precision heavy duty tapered BSP threads
• 1600 kPa at 20°C for 6 mm to 50 mm, 1200 kPa at 65 mm, 1000 kPa from 80 mm to 100 mm
• Will not corrode, unlike brass or steel, in fertiliser, bore water and coastal air

Compatibility and fitting

• Specify both sizes when ordering, larger end first
• Where you are screwing into a port rather than joining two, use the reducing bush
• Seal threads with a thread sealing paste or thread tape
• Nylon threads strip more easily than brass: tighten by hand and finish with a light nip, never a long lever
• Check the pressure band for the size you are buying, as it steps down above 50 mm

Reducing nipple or reducing bush?

The nipple is male at both ends and joins two female ports. The bush is male outside and female inside, and screws into an oversized port. Check which way your connection runs.

Does it reduce the flow?

To the smaller thread, yes, and that becomes the bottleneck for the whole line. Reduce as far downstream as you can.
