Nylon BSP Reducing Socket

A socket with a different female thread at each end, so it joins two male threads that do not match. It saves a nipple and a bush, which means one joint instead of two and one thing to seal instead of three.

Compatibility and fitting

• Specify both sizes when ordering, larger end first
• Seal threads with a thread sealing paste or thread tape
• Nylon threads strip more easily than brass: tighten by hand and finish with a light nip, never a long lever
• Check the pressure band for the size you are buying, as it steps down above 50 mm

Why not use a nipple and a bush?

You can, and it works. But it is two joints instead of one, which means twice the thread sealing and twice the chance of a weep. One fitting is always better.

Does the reduction sit in the middle?

Effectively yes, inside the body. What matters downstream is that the smaller thread sets the flow for the rest of the line.
