Nylon BSP Socket

A socket is female at both ends and joins two male threads in line. It is the counterpart to the nipple, and between them the two cover almost every straight threaded connection on a water system.

• Certified to AS/NZS 4020, so it is approved for potable water
• Precision heavy duty tapered BSP threads
• 1600 kPa at 20°C for 6 mm to 50 mm, 1200 kPa at 65 mm, 1000 kPa from 80 mm to 100 mm
• Will not corrode, unlike brass or steel, in fertiliser, bore water and coastal air

Compatibility and fitting

• Both ends are the same size; use the reducing socket to change size
• Where both parts are female, use a nipple instead
• Seal threads with a thread sealing paste or thread tape
• Nylon threads strip more easily than brass: tighten by hand and finish with a light nip, never a long lever
• Check the pressure band for the size you are buying, as it steps down above 50 mm

Socket or coupling?

Same fitting, different words. In the nylon range it is listed as a socket: female threads at both ends, joining two male ones.

Should I use tape or paste?

Either works on these tapered threads. Paste is easier on larger sizes where tape wants to bunch up as the fitting goes on.
