Description
A tank fitting passes through the wall of a tank and seals against it, giving you a threaded outlet where there was only a hole. It is the fitting that turns a poly tank into a plumbed one, and nylon is the right material because it will not corrode against wet plastic for the next twenty years.

Compatibility and fitting
- Fit the seal on the correct side of the tank wall; getting this wrong is the usual reason a new tank outlet weeps
- Do not over tighten against a flexible tank wall, as it distorts and the seal lifts
- Support the pipework off the tank rather than hanging it on the fitting
- Seal threads with a thread sealing paste or thread tape
- Nylon threads strip more easily than brass: tighten by hand and finish with a light nip, never a long lever
- Check the pressure band for the size you are buying, as it steps down above 50 mm
Why does my new tank outlet leak?
Almost always the seal is on the wrong side of the wall, or the fitting has been pulled up so hard that the tank wall has dished. Back it off, seat the seal properly, and tighten just to compression.
Can I fit one to a full tank?
No. Drain below the outlet height first. A tank fitting seals by clamping the wall, which cannot be done against a head of water.
