OTK Pliers

Ear clamps are crimped, and crimping them with anything other than pincer pliers gives you a distorted ear and a joint that leaks. OTK pincer pliers close the ear squarely in one action, pulling the band down evenly around the hose the way the clamp was designed to work.

Can I crimp an ear clamp with normal pliers?

You can try, and the joint will usually weep. Ordinary jaws squeeze the ear sideways instead of closing it, so the band never pulls fully down onto the hose.
