Screwed Brass Cap

A cap closes a male thread. It goes over the outside of a male port and seals it, which is what you need when a line has been decommissioned, a spare outlet has to be blanked, or a system is being pressure tested with one branch shut off.

Compatibility and fitting

• A cap goes over a male thread; a plug goes into a female one
• Seal the thread properly: a blank that weeps is as much of a leak as anything else
• Seal tapered threads with tape or a sealant rated for the fluid you are carrying
• Brass into brass strips easily: tighten to seal, not to a hard stop
• Do not mix thread standards: a fitting cut to a different standard will start, feel tight and then weep

Cap or plug?

Look at the port. A male thread sticking out takes a cap over it. A female port takes a plug into it. Ordering the wrong one is the most common mistake with both.

Is it rated to the full system pressure?

Yes, to 3500 kPa like the rest of the range. A capped branch is still part of the pressurised system, so it needs to be sealed and tested like any other joint.
