Screwed Brass Elbow Male Female

The No. 25 elbow turns a threaded run through 90 degrees with a male thread on one leg and a female on the other. Because it is male one side and female the other, it inserts into an existing run without needing an extra nipple, which is why it is the elbow most often reached for.

Compatibility and fitting

• The male leg screws into a female port; the female leg accepts a male fitting
• Where both connecting parts are male, use the female to female No. 34 elbow instead
• Seal tapered threads with tape or a sealant rated for the fluid you are carrying
• Brass into brass strips easily: tighten to seal, not to a hard stop
• Do not mix thread standards: a fitting cut to a different standard will start, feel tight and then weep

No. 25 or No. 34?

No. 25 is male one side, female the other, and drops straight into a run. No. 34 is female both sides, for joining two male threads. Count the male threads you need to connect.

Can I aim the elbow?

Tighten to seal and stop where it points correctly. Never back a tapered thread off to aim a fitting, because that undoes the seal you just made.
