Screwed Brass Hex Socket

The No. 26 hex socket is a female thread at both ends with a hexagonal body, so it couples two male threads inline and can be brought up with a spanner rather than a strap wrench. That last point is why it is preferred over a plain socket on anything that has to come apart again.

Compatibility and fitting

• Both ends are the same size; use the reducing hex socket to change size
• Seal tapered threads with tape or a sealant rated for the fluid
• Brass into brass strips easily: tighten to seal, not to a hard stop
• Do not mix thread standards: a fitting cut to a different standard will start, feel tight and then weep

Hex socket or plain socket?

Same job, different body. The hex flats let you get a spanner on it, which matters on a fitting buried in a run or done up tight. On an accessible joint either works.

Which size do I need?

Read the male threads you are joining. Both ends of this fitting are the same, so if the two threads differ you want the reducing hex socket instead.
