Screwed Brass Reducing Bush

A reducing bush steps a threaded connection down a size. It is a male thread on the outside and a smaller female thread on the inside, so it screws into the larger port and accepts the smaller fitting. It is what you use when the port and the fitting do not match and changing either is not an option.

Compatibility and fitting

• Read both threads before ordering: the outside male size and the inside female size
• Stacking two bushes to reach a size works but adds two leak paths; use a single correct bush
• Seal tapered threads with tape or a sealant rated for the fluid you are carrying
• Brass into brass strips easily: tighten to seal, not to a hard stop
• Do not mix thread standards: a fitting cut to a different standard will start, feel tight and then weep

Bush or reducing nipple?

A bush reduces inside a female port. A reducing nipple joins two female ports of different sizes. If you are screwing into something, you want the bush.

Does reducing restrict flow?

Yes, to the smaller bore. That is fine for a gauge or an instrument tapping and a problem on a supply line, where the restriction is the whole system's bottleneck.
