Screwed Brass Reducing Hex Socket

The No. 29 reducing hex socket joins two male threads of different sizes in one fitting. It saves stacking a nipple and a bush, which means one joint to seal instead of three, and the hex body means you can actually tighten it properly.

Compatibility and fitting

• Specify both sizes when ordering, larger end first
• Seal tapered threads with tape or a sealant rated for the fluid
• Brass into brass strips easily: tighten to seal, not to a hard stop
• Do not mix thread standards: a fitting cut to a different standard will start, feel tight and then weep

Why not a nipple and a bush?

It works, but it is two joints instead of one, so twice the thread sealing and twice the chance of a weep. A single reducing socket is always the better fitting.

Does the reduction restrict flow?

To the smaller thread, and that becomes the bottleneck for everything downstream. Reduce as late in the run as the layout allows.
