Standard Compression Elbow

A compression elbow turns a tube run through 90 degrees without bending it. On copper and Bundy that matters, because a tight bend either kinks the tube or needs a bender you may not have on site. The elbow makes the turn in the fitting instead.

Compatibility and fitting

• Both legs take a nut and olive sized to the tube
• Cut square and deburr before assembly
• Seat each tube fully into the elbow before tightening
• A spiggot is recommended on high pressure joints and in nylon tube

Elbow or bend the tube?

Bend the tube where you can do it cleanly, because every fitting is a potential leak. Use the elbow where the radius would kink the tube or where there is no room to swing a bender.

Does the elbow restrict flow?

Slightly, as any sharp change of direction does. On a compressed air line at these sizes it is not usually measurable; on a long low pressure run, prefer a swept bend.
