Standard Compression Tee

A compression tee splits or merges a tube run. Which one you need comes down to where the thread sits, and there are three configurations because there are three ways a branch commonly has to leave a line: No. 12 male branch tee, No. 13 male run tee, and No. 14 straight compression tee.

Compatibility and fitting

• No. 14 takes a nut and olive on all three legs
• No. 12 puts the male thread on the branch; No. 13 puts it in the run
• Cut square, deburr, and seat each tube fully before tightening
• A spiggot is recommended on high pressure joints and in nylon tube

Which tee do I need?

Work out where the thread has to be. Thread on the branch is a No. 12; thread in the straight run is a No. 13; all three legs on tube is a No. 14.

Can I branch a line under pressure?

No. Isolate and depressurise first. Compression joints are made by crushing an olive, which cannot be done on a live line.
