Tru Design Composite Ball Valve

Tru Design composite ball valves are made in New Zealand from glass reinforced polymer, for seacocks and onboard fluid systems where a metal valve eventually gives in to saltwater. The supplier lists them as approved to ISO, USCG and EMCI requirements, which is the paperwork a surveyor asks about on a through hull valve. Six sizes, BVTD12 at 12 mm through BVTD50 at 50 mm.

Why a composite seacock instead of bronze?

Because the thing that kills a valve below the waterline is corrosion, and a glass reinforced composite body has nothing in it to corrode. Tru Design build these in New Zealand against ISO, USCG and EMCI requirements, which is what a surveyor will want to see written down against a through hull fitting.

Will it take the same fittings as a metal valve?

It is a threaded ball valve in the same 12 mm to 50 mm sizes, so it lands in the same place in the system. Match it to the skin fitting and hose tail already in use and confirm the thread before ordering rather than after.
