Description
Before anything else: these elbows are not suitable for fuel or oil transfer. They are coolant and charge air parts, meeting or exceeding SAE J20R1 Class A, in a high performance silicone with 5 ply polyester fabric reinforcement, rated -55°C to 180°C and resistant to ozone and oil splash. The 150 mm legs are long enough to clamp properly at both ends and still trim to length. Bores run from 25 mm (1") to 100 mm (4"), stock codes SILE90100 through SILE90400.
Key features
- 90 degree elbow with 150 mm legs
- Bores 25 mm (1"), 32 mm (1 1/4"), 38 mm (1 1/2"), 45 mm (1 3/4") and 51 mm (2")
- Larger bores 57 mm (2 1/4"), 63 mm (2 1/2"), 76 mm (3") and 100 mm (4")
- Meets or exceeds SAE J20R1, Class A
- High performance silicone, 5 ply polyester fabric reinforcement
- Temperature range -55°C to 180°C
- Ozone and oil splash resistant
- Not suitable for fuel or oil transfer
Applications
- Radiator hose turns on cars, trucks and buses
- Turbo and intercooler pipework needing a right angle
- Coolant routing on machinery and plant
- Race and performance cooling systems
- Replacing a failed rubber elbow with a higher temperature part
Compatibility and fitting
- Order by the bore, measured on the pipe the elbow slides over
- Use T-bolt clamps on silicone rather than worm drives, which can cut the ply; see hose clamps
- Straight silicone lengths and joiner kits are on blue silicone radiator and intercooler hose
Why 150 mm legs?
So there is material to work with. A short-legged elbow leaves no room to clamp cleanly and no trim allowance, and once you cut into the radius the elbow starts to collapse on the bend.
What temperature does it actually take?
The published range is -55°C to 180°C, well above a pressurised coolant system, which is why silicone is chosen for engine bays that run hot or for charge air after a turbo.
