Brass Foot Valve

A foot valve is the check valve that goes on the bottom of a suction line, and this one is brass with a screened inlet so the pump draws water and not gravel. It holds the column of water in the line when the pump stops, which is the reason for fitting one at all. Eight sizes, FVBR020 at 20 mm through FVBR100 at 100 mm.

Foot valve or check valve?

A foot valve is a check valve with a strainer on it, sited at the bottom of the suction line. It stops the water column draining back when the pump stops, so the pump is not re primed every start. A plain check valve on the discharge side protects against reverse flow but does nothing at all for prime.

What size foot valve does my pump need?

Match the suction line, not the pump outlet. The range runs 20 mm to 100 mm and the part numbers follow it directly, so a 50 mm suction line takes FVBR050. Fitting one size down throttles the whole suction side, and a pump that will not draw is usually a suction problem before it is a pump problem.
