About PVC Grey Suction Hose
Suction hose is the one part of a pump set-up that cannot be improvised: a delivery hose or garden hose flattens the moment the pump pulls a vacuum. Grey PVC water suction hose has a rigid helix moulded into the wall, so it stays round from the dam, tank or creek to the pump inlet. Types of suction hose we stock
- 25 mm and 32 mm: for small transfer pumps, pool and tank draining and 1 inch fire fighting pumps.
- 38 mm and 50 mm: the common 1.5 inch and 2 inch pump sizes for fire fighting, irrigation and water cartage.
- 63 mm and 76 mm: for 3 inch trash pumps, dewatering and larger irrigation pumps.

Choosing the right suction hose
- Size: match the pump inlet, and never reduce the bore on the suction side.
- Length: keep the suction run as short and straight as possible; every metre and bend adds lift the pump has to overcome.
- Material: grey PVC for water and general duty; rubber where the hose lives in the sun or on rough ground.
- Fittings: use camlocks or poly hose tails with a super clamp from our hose clamps range, plus a strainer on the water end.
