Nitto Air Coupling Male x Hose

A Nitto style male plug with a hose tail barb on the back, so the coupling goes straight onto the end of an air hose without a thread anywhere in the joint. Stocked as 20PH for 1/4", 30PH for 3/8" and 40PH for 1/2". This is the end that goes on the tool hose, because the plug is the half you push into a socket.

Which half goes on the hose, the plug or the socket?

Convention on an Australian workshop line is a socket on the fixed side, at the wall or the reel, and a plug on whatever is being swapped. The socket holds the pressure when nothing is connected, so putting it on the fixed side means the tool end depressurises when you release it.

Do I need one clamp or two?

Two, offset from each other, on any line carrying pressure. A tail that lets go on air will whip the hose about, and it costs nothing to fit the second clamp.
