38mm (1 1/2") Blue Silicone Radiator/Intercooler Hose

38 mm (1 1/2") is the top of the small coolant band and one of the most-asked bores on the shelf, used to join short lengths of 1 1/2" pipe, bypass runs and compact intake plumbing. It is a straight length of blue silicone, cut to 250 mm, 500 mm or a metre, so it works as a coupler between two pipe ends as often as it does a hose. Silicone is a coolant and air hose only: the supplier states it is not suitable for fuel or oil transfer.

Compatibility and fitting

• Use a smooth band or T-bolt clamp, one each side of the join; a perforated band digs into the softer silicone wall. The clamp range lists both types.
• 38 mm is the bore, so it slides over 38 mm pipe or a 1 1/2" spigot
• Sits alongside the rest of the automotive hose range
• For fuel, use automotive fuel hose — silicone is ruled out

Can I use it as a joiner between two pipes?

Yes, and it is the common use for a 250 mm piece. Leave enough hose on each pipe end for a clamp to sit fully on the pipe, and leave a small gap between the two ends inside the hose so heat growth has somewhere to go.
