38mm (1 1/2") US Coast Guard Approved Fuel Filler Hose

38mm US Coast Guard approved fuel filler hose (RPOSUSCG038) is the standard filler size on most recreational boats, which makes it the one people replace. It is Continental Plicord to SAE J1527 Type A2, ISO 7840 and CE, printed along the length for traceability. The run from a deck filler down to the tank is rarely straight, so the wire helix inside the spiral-plied fabric matters: it stops the hose flattening where it turns and slowing the fill to a trickle.

Compatibility and fitting

• The fill hose and the vent hose are usually different sizes on the same tank; measure both
• Keep the run falling towards the tank so fuel does not sit in a low loop
• Feed lines from the tank to the engine take Type A1 marine fuel hose
• Use two stainless clamps at each end and check them at every service

How do I know the hose I fit is actually approved?

Read the branding. Continental prints SAE J1527, USCG Type A2 and ISO 7840 along the cover, so the approval can be checked on the installed hose without paperwork.
