Description
PSHG050 is the busiest size in the grey range, because a 50 mm pump inlet covers most fire-fighting, irrigation and cartage work. The rigid PVC helix in the wall is what lets it sit on the inlet at all: pull a vacuum through a hose without one and it shuts flat. Outside diameter is 60.2 mm, working pressure 0.6 MPa (87 psi) at 20°C, and it is stocked as a 20 m coil.
Key features
- 50 mm bore, 60.2 mm outside diameter
- 0.6 MPa (87 psi) at 20°C
- Rigid PVC helix moulded into a heavy duty flexible grey PVC wall
- Conforms to AS/NZS 2070 for plastics in food contact
- Rated -5°C to +60°C
- Sold as a 20 m coil
Applications
- Fire-fighting pump suction
- Irrigation and transfer pump inlets
- Water cartage loading from a dam or standpipe
- Site dewatering where the water carries mud and grit
- Drawing feed water for a wash-down unit
Compatibility and fitting
- Terminated with 50 mm camlocks or tails from the camlock fittings range
- A strainer or foot valve on the wet end keeps grit out and holds prime
- Clamp over the helix to the 60.2 mm outside diameter; see hose clamps
- Discharge from the same pump normally runs on 50 mm blue layflat hose
- For oils rather than water, the equivalent is blue PVC oil suction hose
Suction hose or layflat hose for a 50 mm pump?
Both, one on each side. The suction hose goes on the inlet because its helix resists vacuum. The layflat goes on the outlet, where it can flatten for storage without causing a problem.
Why is the pressure rating lower than the smaller sizes?
The same wall has to hold back force over a larger area as the bore grows. This size takes 0.6 MPa (87 psi) where 25 mm is rated 0.9 MPa (130 psi).
