6.3mm (1/4") Rubber Vacuum Hose

The 6.3 mm (1/4") bore, stock code RVT1/4, is the one that runs from the radiator neck to the recovery bottle and carries the larger vacuum lines on a bigger engine. It sees hot coolant surging back and forth every heat cycle, which is why the tube is EPDM: rated -40°C to 125°C, it stays soft where a cheap rubber overflow line goes brittle and cracks at the bend behind the radiator. Maximum pressure is 50 psi.

Compatibility and fitting

• Push onto a 6.3 mm spigot; the radiator neck usually needs a small spring or worm drive clamp from hose clamps
• For coolant lines that carry system pressure rather than overflow, use rubber heater hose instead
• The 2.8 mm and 5.6 mm bores are on rubber vacuum hose

Is overflow hose the same as radiator hose?

No. Overflow hose carries the small amount of coolant pushed past the cap into the bottle, at little more than atmospheric pressure. The main radiator hoses run at system pressure and need a reinforced coolant hose rated for it.
