Stainless Steel Bush

A bush drops a female port down a size without rebuilding the run. It carries a male BSPT thread on the outside and a smaller female thread inside, so it screws into the port you already have and leaves you a smaller one. Thirty-one sizes in 316 stainless, from 1/4" x 1/8" up to 4" x 3", each rated to 150 psi.

• 150 psi maximum working pressure on water, fuel and oil

• Sizes are written large to small: 4" x 3" is a 4" male into a 3" female
• Big steps are stocked as well as single steps, for example 2" x 3/4" and 2 1/2" x 1"

• Landing a small instrument or gauge line on an oversized tank boss
• Fitting a smaller pump to existing salt-water pipework
• Reducing a valve port to suit the hose tail actually on the hose
• Dosing and sampling take-offs on food and chemical lines

Compatibility and fitting

• Screws into any female BSP port and accepts a male BSP fitting inside
• Pairs with a hose tail x male BSP to bring a hose onto an oversized port
• To join two male threads of different sizes instead, use a reducing socket

Bush or reducing socket?

A bush is male on the outside, so it goes into a female port. A reducing socket is female both ends, so it sits between two male threads. Working out which end of your existing connection is male decides it, and getting that backwards is the most common reason a fitting goes back on the shelf.
