Stainless Steel Hose Tail x Male BSP

A hose tail is how flexible hose meets rigid pipework. The barbed shank pushes into the hose bore and is held there by a clamp; the male BSPT thread screws into a female port. This range is 316 stainless steel in 28 tail and thread combinations, from a 1/4" tail on a 1/8" thread through to a 4" tail on a 4" thread, with a maximum working pressure of 150 psi.

Compatibility and fitting

• Clamp the shank with a band sized to the hose outside diameter — see hose clamps
• Screws into any female BSP port; where the port is male, use the hose tail x female BSP
• Step the thread up or down with a reducing nipple or a BSP bush
• Rest of the range: stainless steel fittings

Does the tail size have to match the thread size?

No, and assuming it does is the usual ordering mistake. Half the combinations here are deliberately mismatched: 3/8" tail x 1/2" MBSP, 1/2" tail x 3/4" MBSP, 2" tail x 1 1/2" MBSP. Pick the tail from the hose bore, then pick the thread from the port you are screwing into.

Is this 316 or a cheaper stainless grade?

316 on every size, as stated by the supplier. Where a drawing calls out the marine grade rather than stainless generally, this range meets it; substituting a cheaper grade is what puts pitting on a fitting a year later.
