38mm PVC Water Suction Hose Grey

The 38 mm (1.5") grey suction hose, PSHG040, is the standard inlet hose for a 1.5 inch fire-fighting or transfer pump. Its rigid PVC helix stops the wall closing when the pump goes to vacuum, which is the whole difference between a suction hose and everything else on a pump. Outside diameter is 46.1 mm and the rating is 0.7 MPa (101 psi) at 20°C. Stocked as a 20 m coil.

Compatibility and fitting

Why is this listed as 38 mm when the pump is a 1.5 inch?

38 mm is the metric equivalent of a 1.5 inch bore, and it is the size the supplier publishes. Fittings sold as 1.5 inch and as 38 mm are the same thing.

Does suction hose have to match the pump inlet exactly?

Match it, and avoid going smaller. An undersized suction hose starves the pump and increases the chance of cavitation, which is far more damaging than an oversized inlet line.
