About Yellow Tail Abrasive Suction Hose
Pumping anything gritty destroys ordinary suction hose from the inside out. Yellow Tail abrasive suction hose is built for that work, with a rigid helix so it holds its shape under vacuum and a thick wall that takes the scouring of sand, slurry and sludge. We stock four bores, 50 mm (2") through to 100 mm (4"), cut per metre from 2 m or supplied on a 20 m coil from our Brisbane warehouse.
Sizes of abrasive suction hose we stock
- 50 mm (2"): small trash and dewatering pumps on civil sites.
- 63 mm: the in-between size for hire fleet and contractor pumps.
- 76 mm (3"): the common size on trash pumps for slurry and sludge work.
- 100 mm (4"): high-volume dewatering and quarry duty.
Where the water is clean, our grey PVC suction hose and rubber water suction hose cost less and handle the job.
Choosing the right abrasive suction hose
- Size: match the pump inlet exactly. A smaller hose starves the pump and causes cavitation.
- Length: keep the suction run as short as the lift allows, since every metre adds friction loss on the vacuum side.
- Wall: choose the abrasive pattern whenever solids are in the flow, and a standard suction hose only for clean water.
- Fittings: use camlock couplings sized to the bore, with heavy-duty bolt clamps from our hose clamps range.
- Handling: the helix makes the hose stiff, so allow a generous bend radius at the pump and support the run off sharp edges.
