Brass Hose Tail x Male BSP

A hose tail is how flexible hose meets rigid pipework. The barbed end pushes into the hose and is clamped; the male BSPT thread screws into a female port. It is the most ordered brass fitting in the range because almost every hose assembly ends in one.

Compatibility and fitting

• Size the barb on the hose inside diameter and the thread on the port; the two do not have to match
• Secure the hose with a hose clamp, and use two on anything carrying pressure
• BSPT is tapered, so seal the thread with tape or a sealant rated for the fluid
• Warm stiff hose before pushing it onto the barb rather than forcing it

Does the hose size have to match the thread size?

No, and assuming it does is the usual ordering mistake. A 12 mm hose tail can carry a 1/2 inch, 3/8 inch or 1/4 inch thread. Measure the hose bore and read the port thread separately.

One clamp or two?

One is fine on a garden line. Use two, offset from each other, on anything carrying pressure or being pulled about, because a tail that lets go under pressure is dangerous.
