Screwed Brass Elbow Female Female

The No. 34 elbow is female at both ends, so it joins two male threaded pipes or fittings at a right angle. It is the elbow for turning a corner between two components that both present a male thread, which is most pipe work and most equipment ports.

Compatibility and fitting

• Both ends accept a male thread; if one side of your joint is female, use the No. 25 elbow
• Support long runs so the elbow is not carrying the weight of the pipe
• Seal tapered threads with tape or a sealant rated for the fluid you are carrying
• Brass into brass strips easily: tighten to seal, not to a hard stop
• Do not mix thread standards: a fitting cut to a different standard will start, feel tight and then weep

Why are there two elbows in the range?

Because pipework presents both thread genders. Using the wrong one means adding a nipple, which is an extra joint and an extra leak path for no reason.

Is a 90 degree turn a flow problem?

At these pressures and sizes, rarely. Where flow really matters over a long run, a swept bend in the pipe beats a sharp elbow.
