12mm Rubber Steam Hose Steel Wire Reinforced

12 mm (1/2") steel wire reinforced steam hose, part RSS12, carries saturated and superheated steam at a working pressure of 18 bar (270 psi). It is the smallest bore we stock in this construction, so it goes on hand lances, jumper lines between a header and a single machine, and instrument steam take-offs where a heavier hose will not turn into the space. The tube is black smooth conductive EPDM, wrapped in high tensile steel wire braids under a red pin pricked EPDM cover.

Compatibility and fitting

• Steam assemblies must be crimped, or clamped with bolted clamps rated for steam duty, and inspected before each shift
• Interlocking or bolted steam clamps suit this hose better than a worm drive band; see the clamps range
• The conductive tube must be earthed through the fittings to be of any use
• Keep the line inside 18 bar (270 psi) and +210°C; a steam supply above either figure needs a different hose

Why is a steam hose cover pin pricked?

Steam permeates the tube wall in service. The pin pricks let that vapour out of the cover instead of trapping it, which is what lifts and blisters an unpricked cover. Never patch or tape over them.

What should be checked before use?

Look for a soft or blistered cover, wire showing through, and any movement of the hose in its ferrule or clamp. Replace the assembly rather than re-clamping a hose that has crept.
