Description

16 mm is the heater core size on most cars and four-wheel drives, which makes RHS16mm the length that comes off the shelf when a heater hose splits at the firewall. The tube is synthetic rubber on braided synthetic cord, finished with a black smooth cover that resists abrasion where the hose rubs a bracket, and it is built to SAE J20R3. Working pressure is 50 psi over a -25 to +98°C range.

Key features

  • 16 mm inside diameter
  • Built to SAE J20R3
  • Braided synthetic cord reinforcement holds shape around tight bends
  • Black smooth synthetic rubber cover, weather resistant
  • Working pressure 50 psi
  • Temperature range -25 to +98°C
  • 1 m, 3 m, 5 m, 8 m, 10 m and 15.2 m box options

Applications

  • Heater core feed and return on cars and four-wheel drives
  • Cabin heater plumbing on utes and vans
  • Coolant branches to oil coolers and heat exchangers
  • Agricultural tractor cab heater lines
  • Workshop coolant flush and test rigs

Compatibility and fitting

  • Goes over a 16 mm heater outlet, clamped at each end; spring clamps and worm drives are in hose clamps
  • Where the route needs a moulded bend rather than a hose run, see the automotive hose range
  • The 12 mm and 20 mm bores are on rubber heater hose

Can heater hose be used as a radiator hose?

Only where the bore and the routing suit it. Heater hose is a straight length; a radiator top or bottom hose is usually a moulded shape that holds its bend, and a straight length forced into that path will kink and restrict flow.

How much should I allow for cutting?

Measure the run with the hose relaxed and allow a little extra at each end for the spigot, then trim it on the car. Cut square, because an angled cut leaves the clamp sitting off the bead.
