20mm Fire Reel Hose

This is the ribbed PVC hose fitted to fire hose reels in workshops, factories and rural sheds, and it conforms to AS/NZS 1221. It is sold as 20 mm but the nominal inside diameter is 19 mm with a 26 mm outside diameter, which is the figure to check against the tail on your reel drum. A smooth black PVC bore under a UV stabilised ribbed cover gives it the working pressure of 1 MPa (145 psi) at 20°C, manufactured to a 4:1 safety factor.

Why is a 20 mm reel hose actually 19 mm?

The 20 mm is the trade size; the published nominal bore is 19 mm and the outside diameter 26 mm. Measure the reel tail and the guide rollers against those figures, not against the name on the box.

Can it be used on a pump inlet?

No. This is a delivery hose with yarn reinforcement and no helix, so it will collapse under suction. A pump inlet needs a suction hose built to resist vacuum.
