About Auto Transmission Cooler Hose
Transmission hose carries hot gearbox fluid between the box and the cooler, so it has to hold pressure and resist oil at temperature rather than just carry it. Our auto transmission cooler hose uses a black nitrile tube for oil resistance, two spiral synthetic cords for strength and a black Hypalon cover that stands up to engine bay heat and UV. It is rated to 250 psi and to a temperature range of -40°C to 121°C.
Transmission cooler hose sizes we stock
- 8 mm (5/16"): small transmissions and auxiliary cooler returns, cut to length or on a 15.2 metre spool.
- 10 mm (3/8"): the common size on passenger cars, 4WDs and light commercials, cut to length or on a 15.2 metre spool.
- 12 mm (1/2"): heavy-duty coolers and larger boxes, cut to length or on a 7.5 metre spool.
Choosing the right transmission hose
- Size: measure the outside diameter of the steel cooler line or the hose tail, and match the hose inside diameter to it.
- Temperature: keep the run clear of exhaust components; sustained heat above the stated range shortens the life of any rubber hose.
- Routing: avoid tight bends that kink the wall, and support long runs so the hose does not chafe on the chassis.
- Clamping: fit a correctly sized worm-drive clamp at each end. Our hose clamps range covers the sizes these hoses take.
