About Polyurethane Ducting Medium Grade

Polyurethane ducting is the hose to reach for when the material in the line will chew through PVC: sawdust, wood chips, grain, abrasive powders and the fumes and vapours that go with them. This medium grade PU ducting hose is light, flexible and abrasion resistant, with a clear polyurethane wall so you can see blockages forming. Hose Suppliers Australia stocks it in Brisbane from 38 mm to 250 mm.

Types of polyurethane ducting we stock

  • 38 mm to 63 mm: small-bore PU ducting for hand tools, sanders, router tables and drop lines from a workshop extraction system.
  • 75 mm to 125 mm: the common sizes for thicknessers, table saws, dust collector inlets and grain augers.
  • 150 mm to 250 mm: main trunk lines on dust collectors, silo and seed handling, and fume extraction hoods.

Every size is available cut by the metre from 1 m to 9 m, or as a full 10 m coil. All sizes share the same construction: clear polyurethane with a copper-coated steel helix for anti-static use, rated from -5 °C to 80 °C.

For lighter air and dust duty see grey Plastiflex ducting; for hot air and engine intake work see black rubber air intake ducting. The full range is under ducting.

Choosing the right polyurethane ducting

  • Size: measure the outside diameter of the spigot on the machine or collector; the ducting bore should match it so the hose pushes on and clamps tight.
  • Material: choose PU over PVC wherever the material is abrasive or the hose will be dragged and flexed constantly.
  • Static: connect the copper-coated helix to an earthed metal spigot at each end to bleed off static from dry dust and grain.
  • Temperature: keep within -5 °C to 80 °C. For hotter lines move to rubber air intake ducting.
  • Clamping: use a wide-band hose clamp sized to the ducting outside diameter; medium grade PU has a thin wall, so do not over-tighten.
